Why is a Proper Warm-up Important?

The muscles and body need preparation for the workout ahead. You need to raise your body’s temperature slowly and gradually, utilizing movements that will engage the same muscles you will be using to strike the heavy bags. You need to steadily raise your heart rate, and your body needs to acclimate to the space around you.

Tendons and ligaments need warming up too so that they are more supple and will react more smoothly when taking on the load the muscles are creating. The warmer your muscles are, the better they can move and lengthen. The better they can move and lengthen, the more power you can develop.

 

How Will Proper Form Benefit You?

Our instructors are trained to teach you proper form when hitting the heavy bags so that you can achieve more power. With proper form, your joints and muscles will be safe from injury. What is the Importance of Proper Conditioning and Cool-down?

The conditioning phase of the workout is to give you added benefit to your core muscles, upper body strength and lower body strength. Your instructor will guide you through this phase of the workout so that you can achieve the benefits you desire. The ability to utilize your core properly will help ensure that your lower back is as safe as possible during your workouts, and throughout your entire day.

After working out, your body is hot, and your muscles are tight from the contractions in striking the bags. It is critical to stretch your muscles to release built-up toxins, and lengthen your muscles for more flexibility. The best time to stretch is always after your have worked out and the muscles are still warm.

 

KickAeroBix™ is a TRUE Total Body Workout

This means it works all major muscle groups in your body.

The major muscle groups are divided into lower body and upper body, with your core muscles incorporating several muscles in the center of your body.

Upper body includes your chest muscles, back muscles, biceps, triceps, and shoulder muscles.

Lower body includes the quads (thigh muscles), hamstrings (back of the upper leg), calves, and glutes (buttock muscles).

Core muscles include the transversus abdominis, pelvic floor muscles, internal/external obliques, illiopsoas muscle, erector spinae, multifidus, and other supporting internal muscles, including the diaphragm.

And then there is the balance…it’s all about making sure your entire musculature is getting strong. Imbalances in the muscles create an environment for injury. You can avoid injury by engaging all the major muscles groups and making each area strong. KickAeroBix engages every major muscle group in your body.

 

Strengthening your joints and muscles is critical for your overall health

Why is joint strength important? Joints are your body’s connectors. When our bodies begin to break down, the joints are usually the areas that get injured first. The ligaments (connect bone to bone), the tendons (connect muscle to bone), and the lubricating properties between the bones (sinovial fluid), all have a direct link to the strength of your muscles.

You will have higher “joint integrity” when the muscles are worked. This means the joints will get stronger to support your body in the way you want it to move. Your body creates more sinovial fluid when you move your body consistently, as when one exercises. If you had no sinovial fluid in your joints, your bones would be rubbing each other. Yes, this would be painful. Avoid weak joints by strengthening your muscles.

 

Build endurance & stamina in your muscles and cardio-respiratory system

What is the difference between endurance and stamina? Endurance is the ability of the muscles to continue weight-bearing movement for extended periods of time. Stamina is the ability of the heart to keep up with your workout intensity.

 

Why would you want this?

If you like to have fun, if you have to climb stairs daily, if you like to play with your kids, if you like competitive sports, if you love doing things outdoors including gardening, if you have to walk a distance to your work or your car, you’d love to go out dancing, or if you just like to shop for extended periods of time, then having good endurance in your muscles and strong stamina will make all these activities so much easier and fun to do.

By working in an aerobic capacity, you will be strengthening your heart. You will make your blood flow to your brain, and your body will be removing toxins through sweat, and other functions of detoxification. Staying properly hydrated by drinking plenty of water will also help to detoxify your body for increased health.

A strong healthy heart makes you feel energized! Don’t we all want to have the energy we had as young kids? What do young kids do? They move their bodies all the time. You too can regain some of that energy. Moving your body more intensely, and regularly, will begin the process of energizing.

Having strong stamina and endurance will get you through each day with much more energy, and you’ll gradually be able to intensify your workouts for faster results.

When you are punching and kicking, all your muscles work in unison. Add proper breathing and strong core work, and you’re on the road to a totally fit body!

 

Elevate heart rate/lung capacity

Elevating heart rate during aerobic activity will increase the strength of your heart. After all, it is a muscle! It needs working out too. This means you will have more energy throughout your day, whether your workouts are in the morning or evening. As you are able to breath in more air (lung capacity increases), you will be able to add more intensity to your workouts. More intensity means more calorie burn. If weight loss is one of your goals, you want to be able to increase your intensity as you continue with your workouts. Over time, you will be burning many more calories.

 

Tone and define all the major muscles

The process of punching and kicking the heavy bags will make your muscles move and contract with each repetition you do. This contraction is actually strengthening the muscles you are working. As you strengthen each muscle, you are making that muscle more defined. It is getting more shapely. Your muscles will not grow huge, as this is not weight-lifting. And if you are female, there is not enough testosterone in the female body to make huge muscles anyway. Your muscles will become more toned and get that “cut” & defined look you see in someone who appears more fit.

 

Learn to punch & kick with awesome power

By engaging the muscles with each repetition, you must contract the muscles. As you create force on impact with the heavy bags, you are making the muscles stronger and creating more power. As your body gets accustomed to the workout, you will begin to work smarter when punching and kicking. Working smarter means less effort is required to get more power!

For those looking for some self-defense skills, this is the very basis of self-defense, and it will raise your confidence in your ability to defend yourself. You will be learning the basics of physical self-protection/defense skills by learning power punching and kicking.

 

Learn proper balance

The process of kicking develops balance within as you must contract the core muscles to maintain proper balance. Not only are you on one leg, but you are also extending that leg out, and you are creating force as your foot strikes the heavy bag.

Great balance will help keep you upright when you are thrown slightly off by daily events in your life. Nobody likes to fall down unexpectedly. With great balance, you lessen the possibility of losing it!

And remember, you can start out kicking very low. High kicks are for fun, for show, for point-contact fighting, and are good for improving flexibility, along with stretching. High kicks are not mandatory in this workout.

 

Burn up to 800 calories in one workout!

Yes, this is a phenomenal number of calories to burn in one workout, but it does happen. Of course, the more you weigh, the more you burn. A person weighing 185 lbs will burn more calories than a person weighing 115. But the person weighing 185 will also require more caloric intake throughout the day to maintain energy reserves.

If your concern is losing body fat, then the simple equation you must remember is: calories in = calories out. If you take in more than you burn throughout the entire day, you will gain excess body fat. If you take in less than you burn, you will lose body fat. There are other factors that affect fat loss, but this is the basic equation.

As martial artists for 42 and 34 years respectively, we are aware of how humans can generate power thru learning proper form. We received our Full Professorship Black Belt Certifications from one of the most prominent martial arts grandmasters in U.S. history, GrandMaster and Founder of LimaLama Arts of Self-Defense, Mr. Tino Tuiolosega.

Our combined training in 9 styles of martial arts includes Western Boxing, Shito-Ryu Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Chi Gung, Shaolin Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Aikido, American Kenpo Karate, and LimaLama. Our studies began in 1964, and 1972, respectively.

We worked out and taught 10 to 12 hours per day, 5 days per week, the longest training in any system or style we studied) under his direct tutelage of. (Yes, he was in our studio or we were at his home all day long…)

Our studies have also taken us into the fitness world where we learned more about form for safety during aerobic-type workouts and resistance training workouts. We continue to advance our studies, including fitness training, with our number one priority being the safety of participants. Our focus is providing results-oriented programs and classes to you.

“A year ago I was dreading my 40th birthday. The reason for my lack of enthusiasm was the 30 pounds that had crept up on me over the past five years or so. I realized that I needed to do something to improve my health. I knew I wanted to do something that I could stick with and make a part of my life style.

I expressed my interest and concerns to a friend at work who I knew was a devoted runner. My friend's advice was simple; just start. So I did. Starting in May 2006 I got up every morning and ran, by August I was bored and frustrated. I knew when I walked through the doors at Minorsan that I was in the right place. Dio and Clara were and are wonderful to me. By February 2007 I had lost 13 inches and 30 pounds.
